Learning support · Dyslexia & reading

When reading is a battle, your child isn't slow.

Whether it's dyslexia or reading that simply hasn't clicked yet, struggling to read is not a sign of low intelligence or laziness. With the right, structured support, reading can become something your child can do, and even enjoy.

Signs you might recognise

A child who struggles with reading may often:

  • Read slowly and with great effort, far below how well they talk
  • Guess words from the first letter or the picture
  • Muddle similar letters or words, like b/d or was/saw
  • Struggle to sound out (decode) unfamiliar words
  • Avoid reading aloud, or tire and lose focus quickly

What dyslexia really is

Dyslexia is a common, language-based learning difference. It mainly affects accurate, fluent reading and spelling, because the brain processes the sounds inside words differently. It is not about intelligence, effort, or laziness, and it is not a problem with the eyes. Many dyslexic children are bright, creative, big-picture thinkers.

Around one in ten people is dyslexic to some degree. Identified early and taught the right way, these children can absolutely learn to read well. Left unsupported, many quietly decide that they are "stupid", and that belief is the real damage.

"He's so clever when he talks, but reading just breaks him." Parents tell us this all the time. Reading is a skill that can be taught, step by step, and confidence can be rebuilt right alongside it.
You don't need a label

Reading skills children often get stuck on

Your child doesn't need dyslexia, or any diagnosis, to need reading help. Often a child is coasting along, then stalls at one stage. These are the ones we see most, and we support every one of them.

01

Phonics & decoding

Sounding out an unfamiliar word letter by letter.

02

Blending sounds

Can say c-a-t, but can't pull it into "cat".

03

Sight words

Tripping on the, said, was, were, every time.

04

Reading fluency

Reads word by word, with no flow or expression.

05

Comprehension

Reads the whole page, but can't say what happened.

06

Spelling

Spells the same word two different ways in one paragraph.

If reading is a daily struggle, you don't have to wait for a label. We can help.

How we help

We teach reading explicitly, sound by sound

We start with how your child actually processes language, then build reading from the ground up using a structured, multi-sensory method, at their pace, in small groups.

1

Understand

An optional screening pinpoints the reading gaps and the strengths. Clear report, no diagnosis required.

2

Build the code

Structured, multi-sensory phonics (the Orton-Gillingham approach) teaches reading explicitly, sound by sound.

3

Grow fluency

Supported, repeated practice turns slow, effortful decoding into smooth, confident reading.

4

Comprehend & enjoy

We build understanding and bring back the joy, so reading sticks well beyond the lesson.

Common questions

What parents ask us about dyslexia & reading

Is dyslexia a problem with the eyes?

No. Dyslexia is a language-based learning difference. It affects how the brain processes the sounds in words, which makes accurate, fluent reading and spelling harder. It is not a vision problem and not about intelligence or effort.

My child struggles to read but may not have dyslexia. Can you still help?

Yes. You do not need a diagnosis, or even dyslexia, to get reading help. Many children simply stall at one stage such as phonics, blending, fluency or comprehension. We support all of these with structured, patient teaching.

Do we need a formal diagnosis before starting?

No diagnosis is required to begin. We can start with a screening to understand exactly where your child struggles and where they are strong, then match them to the right support, with a clear written report and next steps.

What is the Orton-Gillingham approach?

It is a structured, multi-sensory, explicit way of teaching reading, building from sounds to words step by step. It is one of the most widely used and well-regarded approaches for children with dyslexia, and it underpins our Reading & Literacy Program.

Do you offer online reading support?

Yes, on a case-by-case basis. In-person sessions at our Taipan, Subang Jaya centre suit most children, but where a child is able to focus and engage online, remote support can be arranged. We will advise honestly on what suits your child.

Where are you located?

We are based in Taipan, Subang Jaya, and support families across Petaling Jaya, the Klang Valley and Selangor, with online support available case by case.
