Learning support · Speech delay

When words are slow to come, early help matters.

If your child is a late talker, hard to understand, or frustrated they can't get their words out, you don't have to "wait and see". Gentle, playful support now can make a real difference, the earlier the better.

Signs you might recognise

A child with a speech or language delay may often:

  • Say far fewer words than other children their age
  • Be hard to understand, even for close family
  • Struggle to put words together into sentences
  • Get frustrated, point or cry when they can't be understood
  • Leave out certain sounds, or find them difficult to say

What a speech delay really is

A speech delay means a child's talking is developing more slowly than expected for their age, whether that is how clearly they say sounds (speech) or how they understand and use words (language). It is common, and it is not a sign of low intelligence. Many late talkers simply need the right input and practice.

The phrase "wait and see" can cost precious time. The early years are when language develops fastest, so early, playful support is one of the most powerful things you can do. Around one in twelve children has a speech or language difficulty.

"She understands everything, but only we can understand her, and she gets so frustrated." Helping a child be understood changes their whole world.
You don't need a label

Speech and language areas we support

You don't need a diagnosis to get help. Whether it is sounds, words or sentences, early support helps. These are the areas we work on most.

01

Articulation (clear sounds)

Hard-to-understand or missing sounds.

02

Vocabulary

Far fewer words than peers.

03

Putting words together

Stuck on single words, not sentences.

04

Understanding language

Following what's said and asked.

05

Social communication

Taking turns, asking, sharing in talk.

06

Confidence to speak

Frustration, shyness, giving up.

If talking is a daily frustration, early help makes a real difference. We can help.

How we help

Playful, experienced, and early

We build speech and language the way young children learn best, through play, in short, joyful sessions, so your child wants to communicate, and finds it easier to.

1

Understand

An optional screening shows where speech and language are at, and what to target first. No diagnosis required.

2

Play to talk

Through playful, motivating activities we build sounds, words and sentences.

3

Practice that sticks

We coach you with simple things to do at home, so progress carries over.

4

Grow confidence

As your child is understood more, frustration drops and communication blooms.

Common questions

What parents ask us about speech delay

Should I just "wait and see"?

Often not. The early years are when language grows fastest, so early support is powerful. If you are worried, it is worth checking sooner rather than later, there is rarely a downside to starting.

My child talks but is hard to understand. Can you help?

Yes. That is often an articulation difficulty, how clearly sounds are made. Our Say Play program targets exactly this through playful, experienced work.

Do we need a formal diagnosis before starting?

No diagnosis is required to begin. We can start with a screening to see where speech and language are at, then target the right areas first.

What ages do you support?

From toddlers through primary school. Say Play is designed for ages 3 to 10, and younger children can be supported through the language-rich Lodestone Evo program.

Do you offer online speech support?

Yes, on a case-by-case basis. Many young children do best in person, but remote sessions and parent coaching can work well for some. We will advise honestly.

Where are you located?

We are based in Taipan, Subang Jaya, and support families across Petaling Jaya, the Klang Valley and Selangor, with online support available case by case.
